Acedia Kitchen

Your fourth loaf is not your first loaf.

Acedia Kitchen is a recipe app for people who cook the same dishes over and over and want to get better at them. It keeps every version you have tried, converts cups to grams properly, and rings an alarm loud enough to wake you for a four-day ferment.

In TestFlight, by invitation · iPhone and iPad · Requires iOS 27 · Version 1.0

What it does

Built around the second time you cook something.

  • Cups to grams, per ingredient

A cup of flour and a cup of honey do not weigh the same, and the app knows. Define an equivalency once for an ingredient and every recipe that uses it can convert across categories — volume to weight, and back — instead of refusing or guessing.

  • Recipes versioned like code

Save a version, branch it, and compare two side by side. Tasting notes and ratings attach to the version you actually cooked, so the record of what worked stays with the batch that worked.

  • Real alarms, not notifications

Timers use AlarmKit, so they ring through silent mode and Focus. A notification caps its sound at about thirty seconds and gives up. A long ferment needs more than that.

  • Amounts scale to the batch

Including the numbers written into the step text, so the instructions never quietly disagree with the ingredient list when you halve or double a recipe.

  • Cook mode

Full screen, one step at a time, swipe between them, with per-step timers. Each step is set in a serif at a size chosen to suit the length of the instruction.

  • Nested sub-recipes

A dish can call for another recipe as a component, and cook mode expands it into the right order of work rather than leaving you to interleave two sets of steps yourself.

  • Share a recipe as a file

Send a recipe to someone and they can import it without it disturbing the rest of their library. Plain Markdown export too, if they would rather just read it.

  • Syncs over iCloud

Between your own devices, through your own iCloud account. There is no account to make and no server of ours in the middle.

A look at it

Warm paper, or crisp.

The app is set like a cookbook rather than a dashboard, and will follow your light or dark preference.

  • The ingredient Bread flour, with a unit bridge defining one cup as 130 grams
  • Cook mode: step 2 of 6, mix the flour and water until no dry patches remain, with a timer counting down the autolyse
  • Two versions of Country Sourdough compared side by side: water changed from 390 to 360 grams, and the bulk ferment step reworded

Currently in TestFlight.

Version 1.0 is being tested on iPhone and iPad by a small invited group. It is not on the App Store yet.
